Wimbledon quarter-final result:

S Bremond Fr v J HENIN-H Bel 3

4-6 4-6

By Sophie Brown

Second set:

Bremond 4-6 4-6 Henin-Hardenne
It's all over as Henin-Hardenne books her semi-final spot with a volley deep to her opponent's forehand. In the players' box, her husband stops picking his nails to shake hands with Bremond's camp.

Bremond 4-6 4-5 Henin-Hardenne
An impressive game from Bremond, who clinches a hold of serve with an ace. Defeat may be imminent but she doesn't look nervous at all now.

Bremond 4-6 3-5 Henin-Hardenne
Henin-Hardenne serves her third ace as she holds to move within one game of the semi-finals.

Bremond 4-6 3-4 Henin-Hardenne
Bremond misses a couple of sitters, finding the net like a German penalty-taker. Her serve is keeping her in the match and a couple of big ones help her come through the game.

Bremond 4-6 2-4 Henin-Hardenne
Henin-Hardenne has even resorted to grunting so she must be feeling the pressure. It's one of the best games of the match with a couple of great rallies. But the 2001 runner-up holds to 30. Time is running out for Bremond now - but the new balls are due, maybe they will help.

Bremond 4-6 2-3 Henin-Hardenne
Has Henin-Hardenne lost her concentration? Maybe she's heard the commotion over on Centre Court where a streaker has interrupted play? Either way, Bremond races through her service game, clinching it with her second ace of the match.

Bremond 4-6 1-3 Henin-Hardenne
Henin-Hardenne serves two double faults, one at break point - and suddenly her double-break cushion has had the stuffing knocked out of it.

Bremond 4-6 0-3 Henin-Hardenne
The match is slipping away from Bremond now as Henin-Hardenne breaks again, rounding off the game with a volley winner.

Bremond 4-6 0-2 Henin-Hardenne
It looks like Henin-Hardenne has worked out how to play the world number 129 now and she holds comfortably. By the way, the answer to that question was 1980 - Evonne Cawley and Chris Evert-Lloyd.

"I've watched every match Henin-Hardenne has played here and her husband picks his nails all through the match and then he chomps them and chews them. He doesn't watch the tennis." BBC summariser Annabel Croft

Bremond 4-6 0-1 Henin-Hardenne
Bremond battles back from 15-40 down and has a couple of good chances to take the game but pays for a couple of fluffed volleys as the third seed acquires an immediate break.

First set:

Bremond 4-6 Henin-Hardenne
Henin-Hardenne's first ace sets up three set points. Bremond survived nine set points in her previous match against Ai Sugiyama but succumbs on the first today as Henin-Hardenne bags the set in 41 minutes.

Bremond 4-5 Henin-Hardenne
Now it's Henin-Hardenne's turn to go 0-40 down - that's 11 points in a row against serve. Bremond stops the rot with an ace but Henin-Hardenne clinches the break when she advances to the net behind an approach shot and volleys a winner.

Bremond 4-4 Henin-Hardenne
The match is getting that topsy-turvy feel typical of women's tennis to it as Bremond breaks back to love. Henin-Hardenne's serve is not firing at all - another double fault.

"It's nice to see Bremond chipping and charging out here. It's so unusual, it's a breath of fresh air."
BBC summariser Annabel Croft

Bremond 3-4 Henin-Hardenne
Bremond has a nightmare service game, dropping it to love. Both women are married, quite unusual in the women's game. There's a good pub quiz question - when was the last time two married women faced each other in the Wimbledon final?

Bremond 3-3 Henin-Hardenne
Henin-Hardenne is much more assertive in this service game and doesn't drop a point. The umpire is having problems pronouncing her name.

"Henin-Hardenne is a little rattled out here."
BBC commentator John Barrett

Bremond 3-2 Henin-Hardenne
For the first time, Bremond is in the lead. She has a big serve and is happy to come in behind it - serve-and-volleyers are almost extinct these days and Henin-Hardenne seems confused about how to play her.

Bremond 2-2 Henin-Hardenne
Just when you thought this match was going to be cannon-fodder for the unequal-prize-money old fogeys, Bremond breaks back. This is thanks to some heavy forehands from the qualifier combined with some feeble serving from Henin Hardenne, who has already notched up three double faults.

Bremond 1-2 Henin-Hardenne
A confidence-booster for Bremond, who holds to 30, finishing the game off with a smash at the net.

Bremond 0-2 Henin-Hardenne
Bremond is still looking nervous and it's an easy hold for the Belgian. The third seed has only spent four hours on court so far in the tournament and looks like she doesn't intend to hang around here.

Bremond 0-1 Henin-Hardenne
After winning the toss, Henin-Hardenne elects to receive. The tactic pays off as she attacks the Bremond serve straight away and breaks.

Third seed Justine Henin-Hardenne's quest to complete her set of Grand Slam titles continues with a quarter-final match-up against Severine Bremond of France.

Bremond is the surprise package of the last eight, the world number 129 becoming the first qualifier to reach the quarter-finals this century.

The French woman has already seen off three seeds in the shape of Patty Schnyder (8), Ai Sugiyama (18) and Gisela Dulko (31) but Henin-Hardenne has yet to drop a set at this year's Wimbledon.
