Injured Rusedski angry after loss
Greg Rusedski
Rusedski was 3-2 up in the deciding set before retiring
Greg Rusedski faces fresh injury doubts ahead of Wimbledon after being forced to retire from the first round of the Stella Artois Championships.

Rusedski hit out at the tournament organisers after pulling out of his match against French qualifier Anthony Dupuis with a hip injury.

He said: "I warned the director that if they put me on Monday I might not be fully fit to go the distance.

"I am absolutely disappointed that they did not listen to a word I said."

Rusedski will have an MRI scan on his injury on Tuesday in order to establish whether he will be fit enough to compete in next week's Nottingham Open.

He said: "You would think they would want to help their British players do well here, they shouldn't hinder them.

"But they obviously ignored that my request, knowing the extra 24 hours would have made a massive difference.

"It is not as if they could not put me first match on Tuesday, it is no big deal. I am used to being screwed on schedules by now.

"But you expect at least in Britain at home to get one request granted."

The British number one took the first set 7-5 but required an extended medical time-out in the second, which he lost 6-3.

He continued to struggle in the deciding set, but retired at 3-2 up.

Rusedski had enjoyed a reasonably encouraging clay court campaign and was building up to Wimbledon, which starts on 26 June.
