First set

Henin-Hardenne 6-1 Pierce
Henin is able to counter Pierce's best efforts as the Frenchwoman tries to figure out a way past the Belgian. A double fault sees Pierce go 15-40 down and hand Henin two set-points. She recovers one with an ace. A third double fault hands Henin the set and things are beginning to look bleak.

Henin-Hardenne 5-1 Pierce
The Frenchwoman manages to grab a couple of points from Henin but she holds again.

Henin-Hardenne 4-1 Pierce
Pierce continues to make errors as she tries to contend with the 10th seed and once again the crowd try to rouse her. She slides to 15-40 with a looping lob, recovers to 30-40 with a smash but Henin breaks again.

Henin-Hardenne 3-1 Pierce
Pierce struggles to pick up Henin's powerful, sweeping backhands and the crowd begin to shout more encouragement as the Belgian comfortably holds.

Henin-Hardenne 2-1 Pierce
Clouds begin to gather overhead and Henin moves into the net to steal a 0-30 advantage. Pierce sends her volley rashly long to hand Henin the first break-point. The Belgian takes it with a smooth backhand.

Henin-Hardenne 1-1 Pierce
Henin is much more efficient on her first service-game, holding out to love with a rasping backhand.

Henin-Hardenne 0-1 Pierce
Pierce opens up the women's final by serving first and surrenders the first point to Henin. The Frenchwoman executes a perfect forehand down right down the line at 30-15. And Pierce holds after an interesting first game.

Henin-Hardenne and Pierce warm up in the weak Paris sunshine with hopes high for a spirited and competitive final.

The players are welcomed onto Centre Court at Roland Garros to contest the first-ever Franco-Belgian women's final.

Home favourite Mary Pierce receives a rousing reception from the French crowd. French number one Amelie Mauresmo is also there watching her compatriot from the stands.
