Airdrie celebrated on the park but ended the season in liquidation
Airdrie could rise again with a fresh start in Div 3
Sandy Stewart has agreed to become the player-manager of the newly formed Airdrie FC.

The midfielder was a veteran of the doomed Airdrie club, who went out of business a few weeks ago, and has teamed up with number two Brian Rice in a bid to win a place in the Third Division for the new team.

Glasgow accountant Jim Ballantyne - who is behind the plans for the rebirth of Airdrie - has already secured a groundshare agreement with nearby Albion Rovers.

Now Stewart has just one week to assemble a team before the Scottish Football League's deadline for applications to fill the Third Division vacancy.

He told the Scottish Sun: "We are trying to have everything in place in terms of management structure and players for the presentation to the league.

"I have already started talking to players and getting them to committ to playing with us."
