Shane Williams' scores for the Ospreys againsty Treviso

The Ospreys rocketed from bottom to second in the Magners League table as the reigning champions secured their first season's win, against Treviso.

Lee Byrne, Nikki Walker, Andrew Bishop, Jonathan Thomas and Shane Williams all scored as the Welsh region secured the bonus-point win over the Italians.

The Ospreys had a four point deduction, imposed for failing to fulfil a fixture last term, overturned earlier.

The visitors scored three penalties and a Brendan Williams converted try.

The hosts, who lost in Ulster on the opening weekend, started early as within the opening five minutes returning full-back Lee Byrne dashed from just outside the 22 to touch down after being set free by scrum-half Jamie Nutbrown.

And the Ospreys should have gone further ahead moments later as Dan Biggar, who had just kicked the conversion for Byrne's opener, set Gareth Owen free ten yards out.

But the ball slipped out of the young centre's hands as he crossed the line as the rain played its part in Swansea.

The rampant Ospreys, however, extended their lead just after Tobie Botes kicked a penalty for the league's Italian new-comers.

Ospreys enjoy 'solid' win

Nikki Walker sailed in down the right after a neat passing move involving Dan Biggar, Bishop and Byrne - before a Dan Biggar penalty nudged the Welshman further ahead.

The Ospreys, without 16 injured and rested players, lost their way as Botes converted two out of three penalty attempts during the second quarter.

The Welsh region, however, soon made up for it at the start of the second period as they took less than nine minutes to seal the bonus point.

The Ospreys put the ball through the hands before Wales centre Bishop raced through a gap to score his team's third try.

And seven minutes later a forward drive saw man-of-the-match Jonathan Thomas emerge after scoring his side's fourth.

The visitors, who secured an impressive opening day win over the Llanelli Scarlets last weekend, did not help their cause when wing Tommaso Benvenuti was sin-binned for a professional foul.

And with the extra man Williams, making his first start of the season, went in for the Ospreys' fifth try on 73 minutes after a lovely grubber kick by Tommy Bowe.

Williams bemoans Treviso errors

The Wales star completed a superb pick-up on the right wing and dived over for his 31st try in the Magners League - and equal Shane Horgan's and Matthew Watkins' tally to be joint second all-time league try-scorer.

Brendan Williams dived over for a late consolation for the visitors - a score converted by Chris Burton - while Ospreys skipper Jerry Collins was sin-binned for a ruck offence.

But in another eventful day at a rain-soaked Liberty Stadium, the Ospreys went from minus three points at the start to end it on plus six to maintain their 100% record against Italian teams.
