Lock Alun Wyn Jones feared for his Wales future

Jones talks emotionally after his 'silly' action

Wales lock Alun Wyn Jones has spoken publically for the first time since he was blamed by coach Warren Gatland for the 30-17 loss to England.

"I did honestly think I had jeopardised my international career," he said.

He said his trip on Dylan Hartley was a reaction rather than a decision and he was "utterly disappointed in himself".

Despite warning it could hinder his selection, Gatland has included Jones in the team to face Scotland in Cardiff on Saturday.

Jones refused to be drawn on what Gatland had said to him after the match, but said he respected the coach's honesty.

Asked if he agreed with Gatland's immediate post-match comment that the sin-binning had cost Wales the game, Jones said:

Gatland explains Wales team picks

"None of the players would leave one individual to take the loss for the whole squad... as players we are very together and I wouldn't like to think I'm arrogant enough to make that much of a difference on the field anyway."

Following his post-match criticism of Jones, where he warned he might not be selected again, Gatland said on Tuesday he felt the player would "respond positively to being selected again" after making his "very critical error".

"We treat every case individually and if that had been someone else who was a serial offender in terms of being yellow-carded regularly or giving penalties away, then the sanction might have been to drop that person... I am giving him (Jones) an opportunity to rectify what happened against England."
