Shanklin set for October return

De Villiers wrong on Burger - Shanklin

Tom Shanklin hopes to return in October from the shoulder injury that ruled him out of the Lions tour.

The Cardiff Blues and Wales centre, a 2005 Lion in New Zealand, underwent surgery after suffering the injury against Newport Gwent Dragons in May.

He said: "I'm looking to get back around October. I have to be careful not to come back too quickly."

Shanklin is also looking forward to playing at the Blues' new ground, Cardiff City Stadium, next season.

The Blues are becoming tenants to Championship football club Cardiff City.

Shanklin is to take part in a charity sponsored walk from the Arms Park to the new stadium in the Leckwith area of Wales' capital on Saturday, 18 July.

But he is eagerly awaiting the day he steps out at the new ground for competitive action.

"We're very excited about the new stadium, it looks great and has all the facilities," said Shanklin.

"Every year you're looking to improve, we want to get to the final of Europe and win the Magners League.

"We're moving to a world-class stadium, all the players are really excited, there's a big buzz around."
