Wales lure too strong for Parker
Sonny Parker
Parker has 18 Wales caps
Ospreys centre Sonny Parker says the temptation of playing for Wales again was too strong to resist.

"Wales' management told me they wanted me," said Parker, 29, who quit Wales on the eve of this year's Six Nations.

"Quite simply, the temptation to return proved too much. I don't regret going when I did, my head wasn't right.

"If anything, I'll be more determined this time to show my appreciation to the coaches for coming to get me and to the fans who have stuck by me."

New Zealand-born Parker was lured to Wales from Italian club Viadana in 1999 by then-national coach Graham Henry.

He qualified for the Dragons by residency, having played for Pontypridd and the Celtic Warriors before joining the Ospreys.

My challenge now is to work hard in training and give the coaches every reason to pick me

A talented centre able to play 12 or 13, his Wales retirement after winning 18 caps came out of the blue, Parker claiming he wanted to concentrate on developing a business career outside rugby ready for when he quit the game for good.

"I didn't feel I was able to give of my best, but I have to admit that I've missed it," said Parker.

"I'm really enjoying my rugby at the moment, the Ospreys are going well and we have a great squad.

"They say you should never say never and I don't regret quitting when I did, but I'm really excited about coming back.

"There's a really good buzz about the squad and, with the World Cup just around the corner, I'm ready to fall back in love with international rugby all over again.

"My challenge now is to work hard in training and give the coaches every reason to pick me.

"It's certainly nice to be wanted, I know I'm in a really privileged position, possibly getting another chance to play for my country, and I won't be taking it lightly."
