Ruddock revels in record victory
Wales fly-half Nicky Robinson controlled the game against USA
Wales coach Mike Ruddock was beaming after the record 77-3 win over USA.

Ruddock handed out five new caps, four coming on from the bench, and gave many fringe players a chance to impress with 10 players away on Lions duty.

And he said: "In many ways this was the perfect scenario, a good win under our belts and we have managed to try out a number of new combinations.

"We're all very pleased with how things went. The boys went out there and gave a thoroughly professional performance."

Wales ran in 11 unanswered tries - four in the first 20 minutes - in Connecticut as the Grand Slam winners notched up a seventh successive win.

Despite the wholesale changes, the backs and forwards combined seamlessly to give their hosts a clinical lesson in running rugby.

Ceri Sweeney, switched from his accustomed fly-half position to fill Gavin Henson's role at inside centre, scored a try and 11 conversions for a personal tally of 27 points.

Flanker Colin Charvis celebrate his return to action after missing the Six Nations with two tries, while Tale Selley and Richie Pugh marked their debuts with a try apiece.

Ruddock, though, believes there is still room for improvement before next Saturday's Test with Canada in Toronto.

"I think we can still improve, especially with our discipline. I felt at times we put ourselves under pressure by conceding too many penalties.

"But you have to be generally very pleased with a 77-3 win in international rugby."

Eagles coach Tom Billups admitted his side were outclassed in all departments of the game.

"Wales were simply bigger, faster, stronger and more skilful than us which is what you would expect from the Six Nations champions," he said.

"We had to play out of our skins to compete but we didn't in the opening salvo and the game got away from us from then on."
