Uruguay delight in win
Uruguay celebrate their win
Uruguay captain Diego Aguirre is overjoyed that his squad's hard work has been rewarded with a World Cup win.

The south American's dominated their Pool C match against Georgia, scoring three tries in a 24-12 victory.

Aguirre, winning his 50th cap, was instrumental throughout, directing operations in the backs, setting up a try and landing two conversions.

"We are very happy and worked hard for this match all week," Aguirre said.

Although Georgia closed to a point early in the second-half, Uruguay remained composed and pulled away in the closing stages, Diego Lamelas and Nicolas Brignon adding to Alfonso Cardoso's first-half touchdown.

"I thought we played very well. It was physical but we were prepared for it," Aguirre added.

"We had every confidence in our team and I want to thank the people who came to support us."

Aguirre and his squad where joined on the pitch by coach Diego Ormaechea and milked their support to the full after the final whistle.

The players were dancing in delight and took a lap of honour to mark a famous win in front of more than 35,000 spectators.

"The most important thing for me is that Uruguayan rugby has shown good improvements," said team manager Daniel Herrera Vidiella.

"There has been immense media attention throughout Europe on the Georgian team after their match againt South Africa and, once again, Uruguay has beaten the odds to take a victory against the media favourite Georgia."
