All the action from the Pool D match in Canberra, where Wales are lucky to emerge with a win against the spirited Tongans.

Latest action appears first - scroll down for earlier news.

Full-time: Tonga 20-27 Wales

80 mins: Wales stumble over the finishing line in the face of desperate Tongan attacks. Far from claiming the expected bonus point, they are outscored three tries to two by the Tongans - who claim a point for finishing within seven of the victors. The Tongans take a lap of the pitch in front of an appreciative crowd.

79 mins: Wales try to keep a tight rolling maul and run down the clock. They kick deep, but the Tongans counter-attack dangerously.

77 mins: Martens taps another penalty and goes quickly. The ball is recycled and prop Heamani Lavaka crashes over in the corner for the third Tongan try. Hola tries a drop-goal conversion but fires it wide.

76 mins: Kivalu picks up and goes quickly. Wales again deny the Tongans, but they win another attacking 5m scrum - from which Wales concede another penalty. The islanders again opt for a scrum.

74 mins: A superb Vaki break fires the Tongans back down to the Welsh line. Wales keep the Tongans out but are forced to concede a penalty. Surprisingly, the Tongans opt for a scrum 5m from the Welsh line.

70 mins: Taukafu replaces Ma'asi at hooker for the islanders. Wales replace the impressive Mefin Davies with youngster Huw Bennett at number two.

66 mins: Tonga knock on the restart again to open the door for Wales. The ball is recycled quickly and another long Harris pass finds Martyn Williams sea-gulling on the wing, resulting in a try for the drop-goal master. Stephen Jones converts from the touch-line.
Tonga 15-27 Wales

64 mins: The islanders fire straight back at Wales, strong forward drives taking them to the Welsh line. Wales cannot keep the driving maul out and Benhur Kivalu emerges from the pile to claim the try. Hola slides the easy conversion wide.
Tonga 15-20 Wales

62 mins: Adam Jones comes on as a sub for Wales in place of Iestyn Thomas, Gethin Jenkins switching to the loosehead. Ngaumo replaces Afeaki for Tonga.

61 mins: Wales break out after a sustained Tongan attack to win a line-out inside the islanders' 22. They attack and win a penalty but - with advantage being played - Martyn Williams slots over an unlikely drop goal.
Tonga 10-20 Wales

59 mins: Martyn Williams joins the fray for Wales in place of Popham.

58 mins: Wales blow the scrum and concede possession to the Tongans. Iestyn Thomas then concedes a penalty to let the islanders off the hook.

57 mins: Chris Wyatt replaces Gareth Llewellyn for Wales. He wins a line-out, allowing Harris to fire the ball across the midfield for Rhys Williams to break the line. The full-back blasts through, but it goes to the video ref as he is held up over the line. The double tackle of Martens and Fonua is enough to deny him a score and leads to a scrum five.

54 mins: Wales concede a penalty on the floor and Hola goes for goal. The fly-half slips on contact and stubs it wide.

53 mins: Welsh scrum-half Cooper off with a blood injury for Dwayne Peel.

52 mins: Veteran lock Gareth Llewellyn throws an unlikely dummy and gallops for the line. Va'enuku intercepts his pass inside to Dafydd Jones, though, and comes close to a score at the other end of the pitch.

51 mins: Tongan blocking in midfield gives Jones a 45m shot at goal, directly in front of the posts. He doesn't have the distance to convert in the heavy conditions.

49 mins: A driving maul saps the Tongan strength, but the position is blown by obstruction and the Tongans gain the penalty.

48 mins: Tonga concede yet another penalty, coming into a ruck from the side. Jones goes for the touchline to give Wales an attacking line-out.

47 mins: The under-pressure Toingan scrum collapses again, and Jones gets another penalty shot at goal. The fly-half sends a fairly easy chance wide.

45 mins: A powerful Shanklin run sets up a good Welsh attacking position. Mefin Davies makes a good break in midfield, but a forward pass from Cooper blows another promising move.

43 mins: Tonga win a penalty, but indiscipline afterwards sees Stanley Afeaki throw the ball in the face of Dafydd Jones. The penalty is reversed, and Stephen Jones goes for goal - but fires wide.

42 mins: Dafydd Jones conceded a penalty on the floor, allowing Tonga to gain a foothold in the Wales 22. They can do nothing in attack, though.

41 mins: Jones gets the game restarted - and Tonga immediately knock on then concede a penalty for offside. The Welsh fly-half lines up the posts - and comfortably slots his fourth penalty.

Tonga 10-14 Wales

32 mins: Wales offend on the floor, giving Hola a 35m penalty from in front of the posts. The fly-half is off target to let Wales off the hook.

31 mins: A Rhys Williams kick drifts over the dead-ball line, giving Tonga an attacking scrum on half-way.

28 mins: Rhys Williams fumbles a Tongan grubber kick, allowing Pierre Hola to follow through and score the Tongans' opening try under the posts. The fly-half converts his own score.
Tonga 10-11 Wales

27 mins: A dangerous Wales attack breaks down as centre Hufanga steals the ball. He chips ahead and has a clear run to the line - but the bounce denies him as the ball slips into touch.

24 mins: Gareth Cooper snipes down the blindside - and finds no-one at home. A clear run to the line and the first try. Jones misses the conversion from wide out.
Tonga 3-11 Wales

23 mins: Wales attack from the line-out, but the Tongans knock on as Harris tries to deliver the ball out to his wing.

22 mins: Wales destroy the defensive Tongan scrum, but the islanders are able to scramble the ball clear.

21 mins: Alix Popham drives from the scrum, the ball is recycled slowly and the backs knock on when it finally gets to them.

20 mins: Wales gain an attacking scrum and under pressure the Tongans concede a penalty out wide. Captain Colin Charvis opts for another scrum, just 5m out from the islanders' line.

19 mins: Wales ship the ball along their back line, but wing Mark Jones is hauled down two yards short of the line.

5 mins: A fine Va'enuku kick gets Tonga to the Wales 22.

3 mins: Tom Shanklin makes early inroads. Under pressure, Tonga use hands at a ruck and give away a penalty 40m from their posts. Stephen Jones lines up the kick - and slots it comfortably.
Tonga 0-3 Wales

Kick-off 0907 BST: Wales are forced into a late change, Iestyn Harris starting at inside centre after Sonny Parker fails to recover from his back strain.

Tonga have to switch Pierre Hola from full-back to fly-half in place of Sateki Tu'ipulotu, Sila Va'enuku coming in at 15.
