Ex-Wales centre Luscombe retires

Hal Luscombe
Luscombe played in 16 internationals for Wales

Worcester Warriors and former Wales international centre Hal Luscombe has retired from professional rugby with immediate effect.

The 28-year-old has been released from his Sixways contract by mutual consent.

"Hal is a terrific guy who has been a fantastic player for years,' Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock said.

Luscombe made just nine appearances for Worcester after recovering from knee surgery following his move from Harlequins in March 2008.

The South African born centre played 16 times for Wales between his Test debut against Scotland in Cardiff in August 2003 and his final appearance in the Six Nations clash with Ireland at the Millennium Stadium in February four years later.

Luscombe's move to Sixways after two seasons at The Stoop reunited him with former Wales boss Mike Ruddock who told the Worcester Warriors website: "Hal has been released in order for him to pursue different ambitions.

"I would like to thank him for his service and pay tribute to his outstanding character and performances over the years, most notably as a member of the Wales Grand Slam winning team of 2005."

Warriors are giving trails to two players, Calum MacRae, a 29-year-old former Edinburgh fly-half, full-back or centre and England Counties centre Patrick Leach, who was with Manchester last season.
