Lund poised for Biarritz switch

Sale flanker Magnus Lund is poised to leave the club in the summer after agreeing a two-year deal with French giants Biarritz.

The 24-year-old was in France last month to discuss the move and is expected to sign the contract shortly.

Lund made his Sale debut in 2002 but has had an injury-hit season.

He won the last of his 10 England caps on the summer tour to South Africa last year, but missed out on Brian Ashton's World Cup squad.

Lund believes a change of scene will improve, rather than decrease, his international prospects.

"If I can be playing well in the Heineken Cup then that should keep me in the frame," he told the Daily Mail.

"Going somewhere totally new should help me develop as a player.

"I've had a great time at Sale but, for me to progress, it's time to move on. I've been here quite a while and part of the challenge will be going over to a new country and experiencing their culture.

"Hopefully that will help me develop as a person and as a player."

Sale have already taken steps to replace Lund by recruiting Leicester open-side Luke Abraham for next season.

Biarritz, Heineken Cup finalists in 2006, won the French championship in 2002, 2005 and 2006 but are in danger of missing out on the play-offs this year, in fifth position with six games left.

The club boast a host of French internationals including Dimitri Yachvili, Imanol Harinordoquy and Jerome Thion.
