Proud Jones lauds Ospreys spirit
Ospreys celebrate their historic win over Australia
Jones hailed his side's magnificent effort against Australia
Ospreys coach Lyn Jones said his side's strength of character was the key to their shock victory over Australia.

"Australia were very physical and carried the ball hard, but the boys stepped up and kept hitting them," Jones told BBC Wales Sport.

"I told them before the game that if we were going to win they had to give everything, and that's what they did. They were shattered at the end.

"It's amazing what you can achieve as a human being when you really want to."

The sides were level as the game reached the final 10 minutes, but a Shaun Connor drop-goal and a Richard Mustoe try ensured the tourist opened their European tour with a defeat.

Australia made the mistakes and we just took our opportunities

None of the Australians who will feature against Wales on Saturday took to the field at Swansea's Liberty Stadium, but the side nevertheless included 13 capped internationals.

Ospreys were themselves without 11 of their Wales squad members - as well as former All Blacks scrum-half Justin Marshall - but they proved more than a match for the visitors.

It was the first time a Welsh region had played against a touring international side, and Jones said the victory was a significant milestone for his side.

"I'm very pleased," said Jones. "I'm very proud of the players and I'm very pleased for the everybody in the region.

"It's a very big night for us and I'm just delighted for everybody. It was a tight affair and we held our nerve and nailed them back.

"They were keen to play some expansive rugby but they made the mistakes and we just took our opportunities."
