Flanker Hendre Fourie signs new Leeds Carnegie deal

Hendre Fourie has signed a new two-year contract with Leeds.

The England Saxon flanker is the first of Leeds' big-name players to commit his future to the club for next season.

"I'm delighted to sign this new deal. It's a good to get another two years here and secure my future," the 30-year-old told BBC Radio Leeds.

"This is a great place to play rugby and I believe we can make Leeds one of the biggest clubs in England. I never wanted to move anywhere else."

Fourie scored his first league try of the season in Sunday's famous win over Wasps and is again one of the favourites to win the club's player of the season award again.

His form this season has seen the South Africa-born back-rower win his first England Saxons' cap.

"I believe Leeds will stay in the Premiership and we are playing better every week. We've started to turn the corner and we all feel we can do it this year," he said.

"I love playing for Leeds. Leeds is a great city to live in. I've spoken to other players that have been at a few other clubs and they all say that Leeds is one of the best clubs they've ever been at and I feel the same.

"The only thing we need to do now is stay up and build on that. It's a great environment to be in as a player. We have a great management staff and it's a place where you can really improve as a player.

"If Leeds are relegated I hope to still stay at the club, but we are not thinking about that.

"If we improve in a few areas this club can be very successful. We just need to show people how great it is to play rugby here and then everyone will want to come here."
