Mustchin signs for Edinburgh

Matt Mustchin never really broke into the Ulster starting line-up
Ulster's Kiwi second row Matt Mustchin has signed for Edinburgh Rugby on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old Mustchin came to Ulster two seasons ago and is European qualified and a former New Zealand under-19 back-row forward.

An energetic player, Mustchin was primarily used as an impact replacement under Alan Solomons and present coach Mark McCall.

The Christchurch-born forward played 29 times for Ulster during his spell.

He missed a number of games last year after fracturing his wrist in a Celtic League clash against the Warriors.

Mustchin said that he enjoyed his stay with Ulster despite his injury problems over the last year.

"This year has not been so settled. There was a new coaching team in place and I was having problems with injuries and I never got to play as often," said Mustchin.

"But I still feel my game has developed and I am a better player for having been in Belfast.

"The Ulster supporters are unbelievable and they gave me huge support which I really want to thank them for. I cannot wait to come back to Ravenhill and enjoy that atmosphere once again, even if it is with Edinburgh."

Before moving to Scotland, Mustchin is hoping to play a role in Harlequins reaching the All Ireland League play-offs.

"They are a great bunch of guys at Harlequins and the coach DC Gillespie is one top bloke.

"Andre Bester and DC have taken Harlequins to new heights and I know Andy Ward and whoever his assistant may be will take them to even higher levels."
