Ruddock keen to snap up Horsman
Chris Horsman
Horsman was forced to look outside Wales after the Warriors' demise
Wales coach Mike Ruddock says he is eager to involve Worcester prop Chris Horsman when he becomes eligible.

The ex-Bath, Bridgend and Celtic Warriors tight-head moved to Worcester last summer but lives in Porthcawl and qualifies by residency next May.

"He's someone I would be interested in bringing in as soon as he's available," Ruddock told the South Wales Echo.

Horsman, 26, would boost Wales as Adam Jones' only cover at tight-head is provided by Gethin Jenkins.

Jenkins is more widely recognised as a loose-head, though former Wales coach Steve Hansen and Ruddock have both used him in the number three jersey.

With Darren Morris left out of the Six Nations squad, the only other props Ruddock has in contention - John Yapp, Iestyn Thomas, Duncan Jones and Paul James - are all out-and-out loose-heads.

Horsman was highly regarded when he played with the Warriors and it was a surprise that no Welsh region moved to secure his services.

He has been winning rave reviews in the Zurich Premiership, with Worcester coach Andy Keast suggesting the England management should look at him.

Horsman played for England schools and was in the Under-21 set-up before his career was interrupted when he was struck down by cancer.

Now happily recovered, he says he does not look too far ahead but would welcome the chance to play for Wales.

"I have to focus on Worcester, but if anything comes after that then great," said Horsman.

"I had two very good seasons with Wales and enjoyed my time there.

"The break up of the Warriors left a bad taste in my mouth, but I've still got a lot of friends there.

"If the opportunity came up to play for Wales, I'd grab it with both hands, but it's not my prime objective."
