Barritt's converted try ended Gloucester's unbeaten home run

Gloucester's run of 22 unbeaten Premiership games at home was brought to an end by Saracens.

The hosts grabbed the opening try when Olly Morgan collected a high ball and linked well with Henry Trinder to score and give them an 11-3 interval lead.

In an ill-tempered game, props Nick Wood and Rhys Gill were sin-binned for throwing punches.

Owen Farrell and Tim Taylor exchanged penalties before Brad Barritt chased a grubber kick to score the vital try.

Gloucester enjoyed the better of the first half and spent long periods camped in the visitors' half.

The boot of Freddie Burns together with Morgan's try gave them a useful eight-point lead at the interval.

But Saracens never gave up and they started dominating the scrum when Gloucester lost Wood and Saracens brought on Matt Stevens to replace Gill.

Although Farrell slotted over his penalty chances, they were cancelled out by the boot of Taylor and it looked as if the hosts would hang on.

However, with five minutes to go Barritt burst on to Farrell's kick to level the scores with a try awarded by the video referee, Farrell duly converting for a hard-fought win.

POST-MATCH REACTION

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"We gave away penalties that we didn't need to give away, we needed to take every opportunity and we didn't and we gave away too many dull points.

"We had to be physical and impose our game on the opposition and we didn't do that. Today the boys put a big effort in and didn't get rewards.

"You can't win tight games if you're going to be a little bit undisciplined in your actions and today our actions weren't good at the key times."

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall:

"We were poor and I can understand why a lot of teams come down here and get beaten because of the intensity.

"The fact that we were able to stay tight and not lose the run of ourselves, that we showed the composure in the last 20 minutes said a lot about us.

"Owen goes from strength to strength. We moved him from the centre to number 10 and he took over the goal-kicking duties from Charlie and kicked well.

"But overall, as a team performance, we have to do a lot better. We have got a run of big games. It was great to win on our away game but we talk about performance all the time and today was not one of our best."
