Streather stars in Nottingham win over Bristol

Tim Streather grabbed two tries as Nottingham fought back from 10-0 behind to beat Bristol 25-18 at Meadow Lane and rack up a fifth successive win.

A converted Anthony Elliott try and an Adrian Jarvis penalty saw Bristol lead.

But Nottingham responded and tries for Streather and winger Jack Cobden levelled the scores at the break.

A Jack Tovey try restored Bristol's advantage before Streather, an Arlidge penalty and Junior Sifa's first try for the club secured a bonus-point win.

Bristol also managed to gain a bonus point courtesy of a late Jarvis penalty, but the former Premiership outfit remain in ninth spot in the Championship table, while Nottingham are now fifth.

The Green & Whites could have, and should have, been in front at the break as Arlidge missed the first chance of the game from a seemingly straightforward penalty, and failed to convert both first-half tries.

The second try from Cobden though was especially important to ensure the scores were level at half time, as Nottingham are yet to overturn a first-half deficit in the league this season.

Director of rugby Glenn Delaney said: "The try before half time was the most important score we've had so far to get us level at the break."

And it was his team's desire and willingness to battle head-to-head with Bristol throughout the game that particularly impressed Delaney.

"It was great to get into a bit of an arm wrestle and come out the right side of it for once," he added.

"We've always been great when we go a couple of scores up and we're free and loose, but we want to make sure we are in those tight games and we know how to win them."

All Black Ali Williams made his home debut in his second of four scheduled appearances for Nottingham as he recovers from injury before the New Zealand domestic campaign kicks off, but was substituted at half time.

"I feel fine. I could've played a lot longer but this is the plan and it's unlike me but I've got to stick to it", the 6 ft 7 ins tall lock said.
