Exeter Chiefs 53-10 Nottingham

Exeter Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs have secured a home tie with Bedford in the play-off semi-finals following a seven-try win over Nottingham on Saturday.

The Chiefs dominated the Pool B clash, with first-half touchdowns from Neil Clark, Hoani Tui and a penalty try, giving them 27-3 lead at the break.

It was more of the same in the second period as Tom Johnson, Matt Jess, Mark Foster and Phil Dollman all went over.

A penalty try was Nottingham's only contribution in the second period.

Fly-half Gareth Steenson was on fire with the boot, kicking five conversions and two penalties, whilst Danny Gray added a late conversion.

The win ensures the Chiefs finish top of Pool B, meaning they will have home advantage against the Bedford Blues next Saturday when the two sides meet for a place in the Championship final.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter told BBC Radio Devon:

"The key for us is not getting too carried away, not believing too much of your own press and make sure you focus on the little things all the time.

"We've achieved something today, and we've got to turn up and do it all again next week and that'll give us the opportunity to be in the final.

"We've got a home semi-final which is what we always wanted and now it's up to us to perform very well."
