Australia's Quade Cooper has been charged with burglary after allegedly stealing from a Gold Coast house.

Cooper, who played on the Wallabies' recent tour of Britain and Ireland, was released from a police station in the Australian town of Southport on Sunday.

Police confirmed a 21-year-old man had been charged with one count of burglary of a residence in Surfers Paradise earlier that morning.

The centre is due at Southport Magistrates' Court on 11 December.

Cooper plays for Queensland Reds in the Super 14, and a spokesman for the state outfit declined to comment but said they would "establish the full facts of the matter" before deciding whether any action would be taken.

"We are still looking to receive the full facts of the issue," added an Australian Rugby Union spokesman.

"It's a matter before the courts so at this stage we can't make any further comment."

Cooper is on holiday and was scheduled to return to pre-season training with the Reds next month.

The centre made his international debut in November 2008, coming off the bench against Italy and scoring in a 30-20 Wallabies victory. He has played nine Tests for Australia, including all four of their tour of the home nations last month.
