Edinburgh 53-7 Borders

Borders suffered yet another hammering as Edinburgh prolonged their fellow Scots' nightmare start to the Celtic League campaign.

Edinburgh could not have hoped for a brighter start as they broke the deadlock with a well-worked try after just two minutes.

Ander Monro set up a line-out with a penalty from halfway and in a clever move prop Allan Jacobsen made the initial dent in the Borders defence.

The ball was spun out to the left where Derrick Lee entered the line to send wing Craig Joiner over in the corner.

The visitors then had Andy Rennick yellow-carded for a blatant late challenge on Lee before Jacobsen claimed the second touchdown from close range.

Monro was off-target with the conversion, but quickly made amends with a penalty after Borders trialist prop Kelvin Todd was warned for obstruction.

The one-way traffic continued as Edinburgh effectively sealed the win before the break.

Sub Simon Webster raced over for the third try after superb handling by Monro and Ally Dickson.

Monro's kick rebounded from the woodwork, but again he atoned by banging over two penalties to open up a 24-point gap, which in no way flattered the home side.

There was no let-up after the restart as Lee and Tom Philip added quick tries, the first of which was goaled by Monro.

Ally Kellock was next to get in on the act as the match became something of a training run for Edinburgh.

Gareth Morton converted a consolation Borders try, but Rory Lawson and Webster had the last words for the Gunners.
