Leicester's Pat Howard has been named both the Zurich player of the season and overseas player of the season.

The Australian fly-half has been instrumental in the Tigers' dominance of the domestic championship, helping them to both the Zurich Premiership and Zurich Championship this season.

He received the double award at the Zurich Rugby Awards in London ahead of Leicester's Heineken Cup final against Stade Francais in Paris on Saturday.

The European final will be a fitting swansong for Howard, who plans to return to Australia this summer.

At the awards, Bath's Iain Balshaw was named young player of the season for the second year in a row.

To complete a succesful year on a personal level, the full-back was also awarded the try of the season for his epic effort for Bath against London Irish in the Zurich Premiership.

Other award winners included Wasps' Paul Sampson, who picked up the top try scorer prize for his 13 domestic trys, while Barry Everitt of London Irish was named the supporters' player of the season.

Leicester's Dean Richards claimed the best coach of the season while NEC Harlequins earned the Zurich Premiership fair play award.
