Wigan coach Michael Maguire says Sam Tomkins has not been affected by being booed while playing for England.

Tomkins was jeered by some sections of fans during the International Origin game at Headingley last Friday.

Maguire told BBC Radio Manchester: "He's OK - it's all part of the growing of a rugby league player, and Sam's a great player."

The 22-year-old full-back may face more abuse from rival fans when Wigan travel to neighbours St Helens on Friday.

England skipper Jamie Peacock also spoke out about the abuse that Tomkins suffered.

Maguire said it is Tomkins' stand-out performances which have made him a target for opposing supporters.

"When you're performing how he's performing week in, week out you're obviously going to get the rival spectators having their opinions but I'm really glad he's in our team," the Warriors coach said.
