Brian Carney's Warrington player profiles

Venue: Wembley Date: Saturday, 29 August Kick-off: 1430 BST Coverage: Live on BBC One and online; full commentary on BBC Radio Leeds 774 AM & online and BBC Radio 5 live sports extra.

Warrington will take to the Wembley pitch for Saturday's Carnegie Challenge Cup final against Huddersfield hoping to win the trophy for the first time since 1974.

But what are the secrets of success of the squad? Who favours Superman underpants on match days? Who finishes every sentence with "innit"?

Ahead of the game, Irish winger Brian Carney, who will miss the game with a broken arm, gives the lowdown on his team-mates.

Richard Mathers - Pic:

Date of Birth: 24/10/83
Height: 1.83m
Weight: 96kg

AKA: Richie Smith

Blossoming since being reunited with former coach Tony Smith - a beautiful relationship has been rekindled much to the annoyance of another player (more of that later).

A bundle of energy especially evident when celebrating a team mate scoring. watch for the run, jump and fist pump... usually landing on the back of a worn-out, tired prop who could do without 14 stones of acrobat hitching a ride. Tattooed.

Chris Hicks - Pic:

Date of Birth: 19/03/77
Height: 1.84m
Weight: 92kg

AKA: Spider, Hicksy

Plays in baby blue Spiderman underpants, hence the nickname.

For a guy used to the sea, sand and sun of Australia he never, ever, ever, ever moans about the English weather. Never. Also never complains if the team bus is running five minutes late. Has never been heard criticising anything ever, ever.

An accomplished goal-kicker and a very strong finisher when given a sight of the line.

Chris Bridge - Pic:

Date of Birth: 05/07/84
Height: 1.80m
Weight: 83kg

AKA: Ali Baba, Bridgey

Shares a house with Ben Harrison. Their Warrington residence now resembles a skip.

Multi-talented player who can cover many positions, and recognised as a top-notch goal-kicker. Tattooed.

Matt King - Pic:

Date of Birth: 05/07/84
Height: 1.93m
Weight: 100kg

AKA Kingy/Sideshow Bob/Napolean Dynamite

Born and raised in the New South Wales town of Casino, pronounced Kasina, and that's where the story starts. The young King was babysat by none other than Tony Smith - honestly!

The two have remained exceptionally close for the last 28 years until a certain full-back transferred to Warrington from Wigan.

Like a woman scorned, this immensely talented centre has vowed revenge on the person he feels has driven a wedge between them.

The full-back claims he was unaware of the "special bond". Expect any pass from Mathers to fly over the head of King. Tattooed.

Chris Riley - Pic:

Date of Birth: 22/02/88
Height: 1.72m
Weight: 81kg

AKA Riles/Scholsey/Ging

Has developed into a solid winger who has the speed to finish spectacularly from long range.

Was stretchered off in the semi-final but made a Lazarus-like recovery, so much so that he was seen riding his BMX and doing bunny hops later that evening.

Left-side partnership with Matt King has proved strong in both attack and defence. Tattooed.

Lee Briers - Pic:

Date of Birth: 14/06/78
Height: 1.80m
Weight: 83kg

AKA: Briersy

A name synonymous with the Wire in the summer era. In his 13th year at the club and at last gets to show his undoubted talents on the biggest stage.

Could be accused of living life at a pace that suits him and known for never rushing.

His game and athleticism has really blossomed since taking medical advice 31 years ago to not do weights or fitness training for the duration of his career. Tattooed

Michael Monaghan - Pic:

Date of Birth: 13/05/80
Height: 1.79m
Weight: 87kg

AKA: Monners

The form hooker in rugby league right now.

Hugely experienced Australian import who has provided a major spark in the Wolves attack. Talented surfer and guitar player, this all-round nice guy and intellectual is unbelievably single.

All propositions to the player can be sent via the club c/o Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Adrian Morley - Pic:

Date of Birth: 10/05/77
Height: 1.90m
Weight: 105kg

AKA: Moz/Bad Ed

A modern-day legend of the game on both sides of the world and in Salford. A man immensely proud of his roots.

Played in a Challenge Cup final for Leeds in 1999 beside his boyhood hero Terry Newton before really making his name down under with a six-year stint at the Roosters.

This Salford native paved the way in Australia for the subsequent success of the UK reality TV show Shameless.

Signed a four-year deal with the Wolves in 2007 and - as he says himself - he's "worth every million". Would be the first to admit he is the best poker player at the club.

Garreth Carvell - Pic:

Date of Birth: 25/04/81
Height: 1.88m
Weight: 111kg

AKA: Gaz/Carves/The Shadow

If you need to find Gaz, check behind Moz. Gaz has what could only be described as an unhealthy interest in all things Morley.

Has recently developed a Manc accent, walks on the balls of his feet and ends every sentence with "innit" ie "can I train with you today Moz, innit?" or "I'm buzzing off getting to the Challenge Cup final Moz, mint innit?".

Like Moz, he is a immense presence in the Wolves pack and is known to have significant pace for a rotund man. Tattooed.

Louis Anderson - Pic:

Date of Birth: 27/06/85
Height: 1.85m
Weight: 101kg

AKA: Lui.

This aggressive and hugely talented New Zealand international is one of the star performers of the Warrington pack.

Like his older brother Vinny, Lui is an accomplished boxer, basketballer and guitar player. Tattooed

Ben Harrison - Pic:

Date of Birth: 24/02/88
Height: 1.85m
Weight: 103kg

AKA: Mr Potato Head/Bobble Head

This man has got the weight of the world on his shoulders. His head is huge.

Shares a house with Bridgey. The two have recently featured in such programmes as "A Life of Grime" , "Grimebusters", "Rogue Tenants" and "How Clean is your House?".

This Irish international is thriving under the coaching of Tony Smith.

Ben Westwood - Pic:

Date of Birth: 25/07/81
Height: 1.88m
Weight: 102kg

AKA: Benny

The least enthusiastic trainer in the squad but you wouldn't know it during games.

A dead ringer, in looks and voice, for David from this year's Big Brother, Benny is quite the couch potato and cites X Factor, Murder She Wrote and Flog It as his favourite cultural activities.

Internationally honoured player who can do 80 minutes without rest. As he says himself "it's only as long as the Jeremy Kyle Show and Corrie" (without the ad breaks).

Vinnie Anderson - Pic

Date of Birth: 14/02/79
Height: 1.86m
Weight: 100kg

AKA: Vinny.

Another New Zealand international who can play in a number of positions in both the forwards and the backs.

Very close to his brother Louis (the movie Stuck on You comes to mind).

A talented guitar player, basketballer, boxer... wait, haven't we heard this before?

I, Paul Wood, have to be very careful what I say about either of the brothers. I don't want them coming knocking on my door, No 1 Wigan Park, Wigan Road, Wigantown, Wigan. Tattooed.

Paul Johnson - Pic:

Date of Birth: 25/11/78
Height: 1.83m
Weight: 96kg

AKA PJ/Johnno

This follically challenged utility player has spent a considerable portion of his career earnings on cars and hair products.

I know for a fact he paid £30 for a bottle of thickening shampoo when players at one of his old clubs noticed his hair was thinning to the point where if his head was a doormat you would have thrown it out.

PJ has won every domestic trophy available.

Mike Cooper - Pic:

Date of Birth: 15/09/88
Height: 1.88m
Weight: 101kg

AKA: Coops

Mobile young prop with great footwork. Calls himself "the Blond Bombshell". Not sure this nickname is really catching on yet though.

Tyrone McCarthy - Pic:

Date of Birth: 21/04/88
Height: 1.83m
Weight: 92kg

AKA: Tye

Is this a real name? Fact, this is the first time in history the names of two Ulster counties are in a Challenge Cup final squad. The other one? Email BBC with the answer. Tye is all action and one for the future.

Mickey Higham - Pic:

Date of Birth: 18/09/80
Height: 1.73m
Weight: 86kg

Has made a surprise return to the squad after three months out with a bicep injury.

Partner Kate is due to give birth on Saturday and the team physio will have Higham's phone during the game.

Paul Rauhihi - Pic:

Date of Birth: 03/07/73
Height: 1.91m
Weight: 116kg

AKA: Rah.

Hugely Kiwi experienced international/pest who misses the game with a back injury.

Have you ever tried to have a conversation with a teenage know-it-all, crossed with a college professor, crossed with a failed comedian? Neither had we until Rah signed.

Former New Zealand Naval cadet (no, seriously, they have a Navy) before turning to rugby league. Tattooed.

Tony Smith

AKA: Brian's Brother

Torn between two pupils vying to be teacher's pet. Apart from the daily rigours of coaching a professional rugby league team this "Englistralian" has become aware of the demands for his affection by Mathers and King.

Unsure of his nationality, he is also unsure of which of these backs he should shower with plaudits during video sessions. King plays hard to get, Mathers plays the downtrodden but enduringly faithful student.
