Wakefield Wildcats 'to meet tax obligation'

Wakefield Wildcats have reached an agreement with HM Revenue and Customs to delay a winding-up hearing.

The Super League club, who had disputed the exact amount they owed HMRC, were due in the High Court on Wednesday.

But a club statement read: "Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have come to an agreement that the case be adjourned.

"If required a date for the hearing will be arranged in due course. The club will fulfil their tax liabilities and continue to work with HMRC."

A similar order was staved off last November after Wakefield reduced their tax bill from £353,000 to £194,000.

In recent months HMRC has also adopted a tougher line in demanding football clubs pay their tax bills.
