George handed new Wakefield deal

Luke George
George scored eight tries in his last four Super League games

Wakefield Trinity winger Luke George has become the latest player to commit his future to the Wildcats.

The 21-year-old has agreed a new two-year contract which will take him through to the end of 2011.

George, who scored 13 tries in 14 appearances this season, said: "I've been struggling over the last couple of years with injuries.

"For the coaching staff to recognise that I've been doing well since getting back in the side is a great boost."

He added: "People have only really been able to see half of what I can do and with the quality of players we're bringing in next year I'm hoping that I, and more importantly the team, can have another good year," George added.

I think next year he can be competing with the top try scorers in the competition

Wakefield coach John Kear

And George's coach John Kear believes the winger has a bright future at Belle Vue, despite the injury problems that have blighted his progress since he arrived in 2007.

"It has been a very frustrating two years for Luke with a major knee injury at the start of 2008 and then lots of niggling injuries that have hampered his progress, " said Kear.

"But you only have to look at his statistics to see he knows his way to the line and with a full pre-season under his belt I think next year he can be competing with the top try scorers in the competition."
