Hull FC have signed Australian playmaker Sam Obst from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract.

The sale has been sanctioned by the administrators O'Hara's who took over cash-strapped Wakefield on Friday.

Obst, 30, who was with Wests Tigers and Sydney Roosters in his home country, can play at stand-off or hooker.

Having joined Wakefield in 2005, he produced eight tries and seven assists in 23 appearances last season.

"This is a really good opportunity for me," said Obst. "They say a change is as good as a rest, so it's a fresh challenge and something I'm really looking forward to getting started.

"I certainly think with Hull we can make the play-offs and get a decent run in the Challenge Cup and who knows from there.

"It's open for everyone and there's no reason why this side can't challenging for honours. It would be fantastic for the club and the fans."

The former Whitehaven player won Wildcats' Man of Steel awards for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Wakefield entered administration on Friday but a deal has been agreed to sell the Super League club to Spirit of 1873, a group run by businessman Andrew Glover.

The rescue deal is subject to the Rugby Football League's final written confirmation that Glover has passed a fit and proper person test.
