Garry Schofield eyes Barrow Raiders additions

Barrow Raiders head coach Garry Schofield has intimated that further additions could be made to his squad ahead of the 2011 Championship season.

Raiders lost 32-24 to a youthful Wigan Warriors on Sunday, having trailed 26-6 after a disastrous first period.

"After that first 40 minutes everybody will know the answer [to whether additions are needed]," Schofield told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"Those 40 minutes were embarrassing, rubbish, no character shown."

Schofield added: "Everybody here who saw that first 40 minutes will know that is not how a Barrow Raiders team can play."

With two wins and one defeat in their three friendlies so far Raiders have one final warm-up match against a Barrow and District amateur side at Craven Park on Sunday, before the Northern Rail Cup opener against York City Knights on Sunday, 6 February.

"To be honest with you, and no disrespect to the lads who we're going to be playing against next week, but I think I've learnt enough about my team in the three games here and I don't think I'll learn a lot next week.

"I've certainly learnt a lot about my team in the last three games and what I'm looking for.

"I'm looking for a big reaction, more urgency and every sort of terminology you want to use."

Schofield took over at Craven Park in November, and has already brought in hooker Martin Gleeson from Halifax and Crusaders prop Jamie Thackray.
