Challenge Cup Final at Wembley to be a sell-out

Next Saturday's Challenge Cup final between Leeds and Warrington at Wembley will be the first sell-out in 13 years for rugby league's annual showpiece.

Although the national stadium has a capacity of 90,000, Club Wembley seats account for nearly 18,000.

And the Rugby Football League have now sold their allocation of 72,000.

There was a crowd of 84,241 for the first final back at Wembley in 2007, while the last 'full house' for the Challenge Cup Final was in 1997.

"Both clubs have tremendous support," said RFL marketing manager Phil Williams. "And that has been endorsed with them selling out their ticket allocations in a matter of days after their respective semi-final successes.

"We now hope Club Wembley members will turn out in force and be part of this great sporting occasion.

"It is very satisfying that the Challenge Cup final is seen as one of the 'must watch' events in the British sporting calendar. There is always something special about a Challenge Cup final at a full Wembley. It evokes so many abiding memories."

As well as its customary slot on BBC One, the final of rugby League's oldest and most prestigious knockout competition (1430 BST) will also be broadcast live for the first time in high definition on the BBC HD channel.

Clare Balding will present BBC's TV coverage alongside studio guests Brian Noble and Justin Morgan, with match commentary coming from Dave Woods and Jonathan Davies.

The pitchside reporting team will include Tanya Arnold, Damien Johnson and Robbie Paul.

"The Challenge Cup final between Leeds and Warrington will be an epic contest featuring two giants of the game," said BBC Sport Editor Carl Hicks.

"And with the final being shown live in HD for the first time on the BBC, viewers around the country will be able to see rugby league in its finest glory.

"The Challenge Cup final is one of the crown jewels in the BBC Sport schedule and we will be covering the match comprehensively across all of our platforms with over a million fans tuning in to one of sports must see events in the calendar."

Pre-match coverage of the Cup final will start at 1330 BST via the Red Button.

The full programme comes live from Wembley at 1410 BST.

Post-match will see the popular Rugby League forum being aired for 30 minutes via the red button.

BBC Radio 5 live and BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra will also carry extensive coverage from the final, including live commentary from Wembley and a full Challenge Cup final preview broadcast live on 5 live on Friday August 27 (1900 BST).

There will be extensive coverage on BBC Sport Online in the week leading up to the game.
