Ratcliffe joy muted after victory

York City Knights

York City Knights new coach James Ratcliffe was unimpressed by his side's 46-20 home win over Workington at the weekend in his first game as coach.

Ratclife told BBC York: "At this stage of the season every point is vital, but I'm not happy with the performance and neither are any of the lads.

"We had four new players in today, all in pivotal positions as well so it's going to take a couple of weeks.

"Defensively we were a bit flat as well and across the board we were poor."

Richard Blakeaway, Gareth Moore and Lee Waterman made their debuts after signing for the club since Paul March's departure.

Tom Lineman was promoted from the reserves to play on the wing, with Moore and Waterman scoring a try each.

"If we want to go where we need to be at the end of the season, in second, we need to keep picking up these three points," Ratcliffe added.

"We will probably have to be 99% better in every department next week [against Hunslet] to carry on with the victories like that."

At one point the Knights led Workington only 18-12 early in the second half but Ratcliffe added: "We knew we were never going to lose the game.

"I asked them at half-time not to think about the scoreboard, it would tick over on its own.

"We've a lot of work to do this week. It's good that we've come away [with a win] after what's happened in the last two weeks.

"We've reacted how we needed to react really, and we've got the three points.

"We need to be a lot smarter and a lot more clinical next week."
