Cullen pleased with Vikings win

Paul Cullen
Cullen says his side are gradually cutting out their costly handling errors.

Widnes coach Paul Cullen says his side's 46-22 home victory over Featherstone on Saturday shows the progress they have made.

Cullen says his players are now eradicating the sloppy ball handling that has hampered them in recent weeks.

"We suffered with that in the first four or five sets," Cullen told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"Once we corrected that yet again, we looked decent going forward. But the pack won us the game."

The Vikings coach was pleased with the pressure his team managed to put on Featherstone and with how dangerous they looked when running at their opponents back line.

"If you get teams tired, you can open them up a bit," added the former Warrington coach.

"If your completion rate is at 40%, you've got little chance of [scoring]. If its at 70-80%, you've got a reasonable chance of doing it.

"That was really were the game was won and lost."

Widnes lie third in Co-operative Championship One, a point behind leaders Halifax but having played three games more.
