Wiki snubs UK offers and retires

New Zealand legend Ruben Wiki has opted to retire after turning down lucrative offers from Super League clubs.

Wiki played a record 55 Tests for his country, including 18 as captain, and also played 312 matches for NRL sides Canberra and the New Zealand Warriors.

"I could have played on but enjoying the finals run with the Warriors and then playing for the All Golds has been the perfect way to finish," said Wiki.

The 35-year-old prop revealed he had been offered deals by Leeds and Wigan.

"I've had a great time playing alongside so many players and it's been a lot of fun being able to say goodbye to all the supporters over the past few weeks," he added. "I couldn't have hoped for more."

Wiki, who began his career in the centre, will continue his involvement with rugby league, acting as mentor to the Kiwis during the World Cup, which begins in Australia on 25 October.
