Rochdale 20-16 Crusaders
Rugby League
Celtic Crusaders tumbled out of the Carnegie Challenge Cup at Rochdale Hornets having let slip a half-time lead in Sunday's fourth-round match.

The Welsh side took the lead from their first attack as Craig Richards pounced on a mistake from Gary Hulse to score.

Crusaders kept up the pressure and went into the break with a handy 16-8 lead.

Tommy Goulden and Eric Andrews scores gave Hornets the win, but Crusaders were denied after Dean Fitzgerald was ruled not to have grounded a 'try'.

National League One side Rochdale won both their meetings with Crusaders last term, including knocking the NL2 side out of this competition at the same stage.

But this season's encounter at Spotland was a much-closer affair and evidence of the progress that Crusaders have made in 12 months.

Crusaders coach John Dixon said: "Sometimes the ball bounces one way, sometimes it goes the other way.

"Credit to Rochdale, right in the last minute they had enough zip and enough endeavour to score and congratulations to them."
