Hosp celebrates her overall World Cup triumph
Austria's Nicole Hosp secured the women's overall World Cup crown after winning the season's final giant slalom race in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

Hosp, 23, who led the event after the first leg, produced a fine second run to win in two minutes 11.98 seconds.

Germany's Kathrin Hoelzl finished second with Austrian Michaela Kirchgasser third.

Hosp also took the giant slalom title, meaning Austrian women have swept the World Cup honours this season.

The last time that happened was in the 1998-99 season, but there were only five titles then, since none was awarded for the combined.

In all, the Austrian women won 23 races this season and produced 54 podium results.

Hosp's overall title rival and compatriot Marlies Schild, who began the day trailing by 30 points, could only finish sixth in Sunday's race.

But Schild did win the slalom and combined crowns, while veteran speed specialist Renate Goetschl took the downhill and super-G titles.

In the month since the World Championships, Hosp has claimed precious points with three victories and six podium places, finishing outside each race's top 10 only twice.

Hosp's fourth giant slalom win of the season saw her finish top of the standings with a points total of 1572.

It marked the first time in five years that an Austrian woman has won the overall title.

The last four were evenly shared by Sweden's Anja Paerson and Croatia's Janica Kostelic, who won last year's edition and sat out this season for health reasons.

Hosp said: "To do this five years after my first World Cup victory is very emotional. This was the biggest win of my season because I knew I had to finish.

"It was not only important to win the overall but also the giant slalom crown because we were looking to snatch all the titles this season and we've now done it.

"A lot of things were going through my head but I worked hard to concentrate on just skiing well."
