Noel Baxter has retained his British men's ski champion title with wins in the giant slalom and slalom at the National Championships, held in France.

Older brother Alain straddled during the first run of the slalom but finished fourth in the giant slalom in the ski resort of Meribel.

Chemmy Alcott won the slalom and giant slalom but Katrina Head was awarded the overall title.

Alcott went on to compete in the French Champions and won the giant slalom.

Baxter said: "I am the one who pushes myself hardest and I do come here to win. I just try to win each race as it comes and don't think about the overall. But, now it's good to have won it again."

In the men's downhill, Finlay Mickel took the title for the fourth year running, just 0.10 seconds ahead of Roger Cruickshank, who was competing for the final time after announcing he was quitting international skiing to concentrate on his RAF career.

Andy Noble, who was expected to challenge the Baxters in the slalom disciplines after excellent FIS race results, had a disappointing championships. He was disqualified in the slalom and fell in the giant slalom.

Unseasonably warm weather also played its part. The result from the junior downhill had to stand as the main downhill and the super-G was cancelled.
