O'Sullivan opens Williams feud
Mark Williams
Williams says he wants to 'stick it up' O'Sullivan
A war of words has opened up between the world's two leading snooker players after Ronnie O'Sullivan branded Mark Williams "stupid".

The world number one, competing in the Citywest Irish Masters in Dublin, said: "I can't think of anyone in the game who likes Williams, he just rubs you up the wrong way."

Williams, who heads the provisional rankings for next season with O'Sullivan at number two, is on course to meet the Rocket in the semi-finals after advancing to the last 16 with a 5-1 win over Rod Lawler.

After the victory the Welshman responded to O'Sullivan's comments.

"If you are stupid, you say stupid things," he said.

"I don't care what he says, it will have no bearing on my life. And if you don't get on with someone, you don't get on with them.

"But I always want to stick it up him every time we play - and there will be an extra bit of needle next time we play."

Williams finished the match with a break of 141, the second-highest of his career, as he continued the hot form that has already taken him to three finals this season.

"It wasn't the best of matches and Rod had plenty of chances to win. But I'm just pleased to have got through," said Williams, who now faces Scotland's Jamie Burnett.

O'Sullivan negotiated his first round game with a 5-3 victory over Stuart Bingham.

O'Sullivan, though, had to work hard as Bingham led 2-0 with a break of 139 in frame two.

Even after levelling at 2-2, he did not pot a ball in the fifth as Bingham hit back with 78.

But the world number one produced some vintage snooker in the final three frames - firing in runs of 75, 71 and 75.
