Davis on the way back
Steve Davis
Davis hopes to move back into the top 16
Snooker legend Steve Davis admitted there is no hidden formula to his emphatic return to form at the LG Cup.

But the six-times world champion believes he can maintain the form that has taken him to quarter-finals.

Davis is producing his best snooker in years at the Preston tournament, sparked off by his thrilling victory against old foe Jimmy White.

The resurgent Davis followed that up with a 5-1 thrashing of world number two Mark Williams, setting up a quarter-final clash with Paul Hunter.

"I almost felt like I was back on my own territory," said Davis. "I don't know why because I hadn't practised that much.

"I just felt comfortable on the table. I felt all the pressure was on Mark and there was none on me.

"Mark didn't have the best of games and I kept the heat on him. I just enjoyed the moment."

Davis is now relishing the prospect of facing Hunter, a player he has never beaten.

"He's a great player with plenty of bottle," said Davis.

"But I've got nothing to lose, so I'm just looking forward to it."
