Quadruple Commonwealth shooting medal winner James Huckle insists he can become world-class competitor.

The 20-year-old from Harlow took two silver and two bronze medals away from Delhi and is now looking to step up into the elite level of the sport.

He told BBC Essex; "I've witnessed people do it, they're just normal people like me, they've just got a bit more experience.

"That's the most difficult step people find to make."

He added: "Realistically it's simple because it's more of the same work. You have to find ways of training smarter."

The race to qualify for the 2012 Olympics is already about to start.

Huckle will head to the Welsh Open this weekend and continue his campaign for a place in Team GB at World Cup meetings in Korea and Australia next year.

"They're really the events I need to attend to to get a qualification place for 2012," he said.

"They're vitally important to me and mean just as much as the Commonwealth Games."

The Romford Rifle and Pistol Club member only started shooting four years ago and admits going to the Olympics is a relatively new aspiration.

"When I first picked up a rifle I was completely unaware it was an Olympic sport," he said.

"Since I found out it was an Olympic sport I've been determined and motivated to get there."

Huckle collected his Delhi medals across the 50m rifle three positions, 50m rifle three positions pairs, 10m air rifle and 10m air rifle pairs.
