Skier Alcott ponders sport switch
Chemmy Alcott
Alcott finished 32nd in the overall World Cup standings this season
Britain's number one skier Chemmy Alcott says she is considering taking up a new sport in order to compete at the London Olympics in 2012.

The 24-year-old, who has just had her most successful World Cup season, says she could try cycling, kayaking or boxing, if it is included in the Games.

"I just want to be a part of 2012," she told the Daily Telegraph.

"I could think of nothing greater than competing at the world's biggest sporting event in our own backyard."

She added: "I am told women's boxing could come into the Games in 2012, and I would be prepared to get in a ring and fight for a medal."

Alcott was voted British Ski and Snowboard Federation Winter Olympian of the Year last year for her performances at the Winter Games in Turin.

She was presented with the trophy by British Olympic Association performance director Sir Clive Woodward and Alcott says she was impressed by the World Cup-winning England rugby coach.

"When Sir Clive presented me with the trophy we spoke at length and I was in awe of his depth of knowledge on creating leaders in world sport," she said.

"He made me realise that I had almost reached the pinnacle of world skiing off my own back. He also seemed surprised at the lack of science in skiing - our sport is really behind in terms of using resources.

"The programme he put in place for our winning rugby World Cup team was unlike anything I had ever heard of.

"He thought of every possible scenario and provided the players with an abundance of professionals to help them tackle anything and everything."
