London's 2012 Olympic bid is reported to have been handed a major boost.

The Press Association says the city's technical bid will be rated level with its rivals Paris and New York.

That would be a huge turnaround from 10 months ago, when an initial appraisal by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ranked London a poor third.

No official announcement has been made but it is understood that Madrid has been ranked behind the other three cities, with Moscow coming last.
