Bees bring in Czech import Kelner

Bracknell Bees

Bracknell Bees have boosted their attacking options with the signing of unattached Czech forward Roman Kelner.

Kelner, 33, has been out of the game for two years but has experience in the Czech and Slovakian Extraligas, as well as in Poland.

"Roman will bring maturity and experience to our offence," said Bees player-coach Adam Bicknell.

Kelner, a friend of Bees star and fellow countryman Jan Melichar, should make his debut at Swindon on Saturday.

He has a good size and will be very difficult to move from the front of the net

He has a reputation for a hard shot and, at 6ft 4in, will prove a handful for opposing defences in a season where Bracknell have so far struggled to score.

The Bees have lacked a recognised top-class forward since the departure of disappointing Canadian import Jeff Hutchins earlier in the season, but Bicknell is confident Kelner will be a success.

"He is a natural centreman who is strong on the puck," said Bicknell, who has invited Kelner to training sessions at Bracknell in recent weeks.

"After training with us a couple of times it is clear that Roman is confident with the puck and can skate very well," he added.

"He has a good size and will be very difficult to move from the front of the net."

Kelner is expected to take up the number 22 jersey at Bracknell, and will make his home debut against Berkshire rivals Slough on Sunday.
