Fallon claims first win on return

Kieren Fallon clinched his first winner since returning from an 18-month drugs ban when he rode Our Kes to victory at Wolverhampton on Saturday.

The six-time champion jockey was winless in seven races on his comeback at Lingfield and Kempton on Friday.

And he went five races at Haydock Park before clinching the win.

Fallon had been absent from British racecourses since 2006 after a trial into alleged race-fixing, in which he was cleared, and an 18-month drugs ban.

Our Kes went off the 7-2 favourite and was perfectly placed throughout before Fallon made his move over a furlong out to finish three-quarters-of-a-length clear at the line.

"I had some good rides but at least now I can relax and ride proper races," said the 44-year-old Irishman.

"It is a confidence thing - if you are not riding winners and have not done for the last couple of years, then you don't have the confidence but hopefully it will build from here.

"I have said all along that even with all the homework and training you do, there is only one thing that can get you race-fit and that is race-riding.

"It is fantastic and gives me a lot of confidence."

One of the most successful jockeys in British horse racing, Fallon has three victories in the English Derby, four in the 2,000 Guineas, four in the 1,000 Guineas for fillies and four in the Oaks. In France, he has twice won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
