BDO World Darts Championship, Frimley Green, 3-11 January
Coverage: Live on BBC TV, Red Button and BBC Sport website

Highlights - Walton whitewashes Webster

John Walton produced a stunning performance to whitewash defending champion Mark Webster and reach the BDO World Championship quarter-finals.

It took 2001 champion Walton only 38 minutes to romp to a 4-0 victory over the second seed.

Walton, 47, will face seventh seed Ted Hankey in the next round after his 4-1 victory over Ross Montgomery.

Martin Adams, seeded third, overcame debutant Daryl Gurney to win 4-2 and Gary Robson beat Martin Atkins 4-2.

Walton started superbly with a 12-dart opening leg and took the first set 3-1.

Despite trailing 2-0 in the second set, the 47-year-old hit back with a 102 checkout which he followed with a 17-dart leg and an 11-darter to extend his lead.

A 111 finish in the opening leg of the third set heralded a 3-0 whitewash for 3-0 overall.

Walton started the fourth set with a 15-dart leg, including his third 180, and although 25-year-old Webster levelled, the 14th seed clinched victory with a 126 check-out, finishing on bull.

Walton said: "I just relaxed and played the dartboard and not Mark."

Webster admitted: "It just did not happen. I thought I could make it 1-1 but knew after the second set that it was not going to happen tonight.

"As defending champion you are bound to feel more pressure and I have had it all year. I just haven't played well."

Third seed Adams held off a spirited challenge from Gurney in a 79-minute encounter, after his Northern Ireland opponent hit back from 2-0 down.

Robson had to overcome the jitters after opening up a 3-0 lead against Atkins but he managed to hold off any comeback to claim victory.

Hankey cruised through his match and will relish the chance for revenge over Walton in their quarter-final which is a repeat of the 2001 world final when the Yorkshireman prevented Hankey from successfully defending his title.

Earlier in the day Sion Simon, the Minister for Further Education, visited Lakeside to promote the Get On campaign, which highlights how darts can help boost mental arithmetic skills.

Extensive coverage of the Lakeside World Darts Championships will feature on BBC TV and the BBC Sport website.
