Virenque enjoyed a successful Tour de France
Tour de France King of the Mountains winner Richard Virenque has signed a one-year extension at Quick Step.

The 33-year-old rider, who claimed a record-equalling sixth polka dot jersey in the 2003 Tour, confirmed the deal on Sunday.

"I'm very happy to still be able to ride for this team which has proved over the past few months that it is united and ambitious and supported me brilliantly during the Tour," said Virenque.

Virenque said he had no plans for retirement and would keep riding as long as he had the apetitite for victory.

"I still don't know if 2004 will be my final season. As long as I stay enthusiastic and in form I'll continue," he vowed.

Quick Step also announced they had reached agreement with Swiss rider Laurent Dufaux for next season.
