Wycombe's Debbie Stavrou beat Guernsey star Alison Merrien in a tie-break in the World Indoor Bowls Tour Championships final in Norfolk.

Merrien struggled to find her top form in the first set going down 12-7 before fighting back to win the second 7-6.

At 1-1 in the tie-break, with one on the jack for Stavrou, Merrien's last bowl went through the smallest of gaps leaving her opponent with the win.

Merrien told BBC Guernsey: "I struggled at the start and came back too late."

Merrien praised her opponent: "She played the big bowls when she needed to and that made the difference really.

Merrien's final wood sailed through a tiny gap
"Usually I power out in the first set and try and hold the game. Today Debbie was playing a very consistent drawing game and I couldn't find my feet in the first set but I settled into the game.

"The sets game is different to the normal game of 21 ends, sets is more like a game of two halves. It was so close, it could have gone either way and both of us really wanted it."

As Merrien reached the semi finals she will automatically be invited back in 2010 and she said: "I have already pre-warned Debbie, I said I will be after it next year."
