Jersey win inter-insular swimming

Jersey's Ebony Jacklin and Antoin Le Fevre collect the inter-insular trophy

Jersey won the inter-insular swimming for the first time since 2001 with a 223-197 triumph over Guernsey at Les Quennevais on Saturday.

Seventeen new meeting records, 10 for Guernsey and seven for Jersey were set, while Guernsey's Kristina Neves set records in the 100m freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.

"It was a really good performance by the guys, you know we went in as underdogs again this year but we pulled off the win, it's great," said Jersey coach Nathan Jegou.

"This is the start of three big weeks of swimming for the guys, so it was good to get it all underway with a win."

Jersey's Tom Gallichan, Ebony Jacklin, Rebecca Le Maistre, Henry Job and Declan Bourke are now set to swim for Hampshire in the annual inter-counties competition next weekend.

A week later, the 28th AIB Tigers Open Meet will be held at Les Quennevais.
