Weakened Devils lose to Steelers

Cardiff Devils play Nottingham Panthers in the semi-finals
Cardiff Devils fell 3-0 at home to Sheffield Steelers in the final Group B Elite League play-off game on Sunday.

With top spot already assured in the group, the Devils rested a few players to protect them for next weekend's semi-final against Nottingham Panthers.

Steelers, who play Coventry Blaze in the semis, scored through Daryl Andrews, Gerad Adams and Mark Dutiaume.

"Neither team wanted to make any hits and risk injury," said Devils coach Dave Whistle.

"The game didn't mean anything to either team. It was a good chance to get Brabs (net minder Mike Brabon) in net just in case we need him next weekend.

"It was also a good chance to sit Dave Matzos out and rest him. We just didn't want him getting hurt at all even by accident."
