Tyrone captain Brian Dooher has been named as the BBC Radio Foyle-Bank of Ireland Sports Personality of the Month for September.

In a month where Tyrone claimed a third All-Ireland Football title, the Clann na nGael clubman again led by example.

A former pupil of St. Columb's College, Dooher was also named on the All-Star team for a third time.

A natural leader, Dooher has played an instrumental part in Tyrone sides for more than a decade.

He has won three All-Ireland Senior titles and five Ulster championships.

For long an unsung member of Mickey Harte's side, Dooher's influence on the Red Hands has been widely recognised in recent years.

Dooher's steely determination again came to the fore as Kerry were put to the sword at Croke Park last month, while he played pivotal roles in the victories over Dublin and Wexford in the quarter and semi-finals.

Dooher joins the eight previous winners in the running for the main award which will be announced at a Gala Presentation in January.
