Crossmaglen edged out Clontibret to qualify for next Sunday's AIB Ulster Club SFC final against Ballinderry.

Paul Hearty's great save denied Clontibret's Fergal Mone early on but John Hanratty hit the net at the other end to help Cross lead 1-3 to 0-1.

Cross led 1-5 to 0-4 at half-time but Clontibret drew level after the break.

Two John McEntee points steadied Cross although Clontibret hit the final three scores. Oisin McConville was sent off late on after getting two yellow cards.

Crossmaglen had to rejig their line-up before the throw-in with Francie Bellew and Stephen Kernan late withdrawals because of injury and joining Aaron Kernan on the sideline.

Oisin McConville notched the opening score of the game for Cross but Hearty then had to make his superb save to tip Fergal Mone's goal attempt wide.

Dessie Mone pointed the 45 to bring the sides level but Cross then hit 1-2 without replay to take a grip on the game.

Hanratty latched on to John McEntee's long ball to fire in the ultimately crucial goal in the 11th minute.

McEntee and Michael McNamee were also on the Cross scoresheet before the break but Clontibret's Conor McManus hit the final two scores of the first half to reduce the Armagh side's lead to four points.

Clontibret produced a big effort after the break and Michael Hughes, McManus and Rodney Gorman were among the scorers as the Monaghan side hit four unanswered points.

However, Cross refused to fold and replied with four unanswered points of their own from McEntee (two), McConville and Johnny Murtagh.

To their immense credit, Clontibret refused to give up and they hit three points to reduced Crossmaglen's lead to the minimum.

However, the Armagh side held on to set up a provincial decider against Ballinderry at Casement Park next Sunday (1400 GMT).
